Paragon Cutting Formes, a Gateshead-based die-cutting and print finishing specialist, has taken its first step into perfect binding, investing in a Horizon BQ-470 four clamp perfect binder from IFS.

The company, founded in 1991, says that its ethos is ‘doing whatever it can to support customer requirements,’ and that this was the driving force behind the purchase.

‘A local supplier that offered perfect binding unfortunately closed and we assessed how we could address that new gap in the market,’ explained managing director Gary Wilson. ‘We also looked at how to add that service and how it would complement our other capabilities.’

The Horizon BQ-470 is designed for mid-range soft back book production with higher production speeds. It can bind up to 65mm thickness and offers fully automated set-up via an LCD touchscreen.

Mr Wilson opted for this particular perfect binder as, ‘We have built up a strong reputation for quality and service and wanted to ensure we could continue to provide that with the new process. The Horizon system gave us that peace of mind. It is robust and ensures very high quality and consistent results. It is also very easy to set up and run which means we can confidently meet our customers’ expectations. We are very pleased with it.

‘We chose the four clamp option because we knew the volumes would be there and with the intuitive touch screen set up we can process jobs quickly and easily. In its first couple of months it has been running very well and we have been very busy. We think it will pay for itself within two years.’
