Canon has launched the ProStream 1800, a continuous feed inkjet printer that marks the next generation of the company’s ProStream 1000 series and offers a 66% speed increase over the existing models.
The new press, which uses 1200dpi piezo drop-on-demand print heads and proprietary polymer pigment inks with Canon ColorGrip primer, prints at speeds of up to 133m/min. This is 66% faster than the ProStream 1000, allowing the ProStream 1800 to produce up to 107,500 A4 images or 11,300 B2 sheets per hour.
Canon claims it has the highest resolution and print quality of any press that operates at that speed, with quality remaining consistent across a range of media including standard offset coated, uncoated and inkjet optimised papers ranging from 40 – 300gsm and across widths up to 556mm.
According to Canon, the ProStream 1800 is intended to provide customers with ‘the confidence to handle higher volumes of work, slash turnaround times and increase profit margins’ across a wide range of applications, including premium and high volume direct mail, books, catalogues and magazines.
Inline Quality Control is provided via a camera system that for automatic print quality assurance. There is also an air floatation drying system which dries all jobs evenly, never coming into contact with the paper, so protecting the printed image and preserving gloss effects and the substrate itself. Artificial Intelligence also makes continual adjustments to ensure the best quality.
Peter Wolff, vice president, production printing products, EMEA Commercial Printing, Canon Europe, said, ‘With the launch of the new ProStream 1800, we can support customers who are looking to grow their production volumes without compromising quality or speed. The new press marks an extension of the successful ProStream technology that was launched in 2017. Building on our 30-strong installed base, we are excited to be offering a new proposition for customers that want ultimate performance.’
Customers can see the new ProStream 1800 in person at Canon’s Customer Experience Centre in Poing, Germany or request a virtual demo. The ProStream 1000 remains available and existing customers will have the option of upgrading to the 1800.
