InkTec Europe has introduced a new copper anti-microbial film as well as a thicker, multi-purpose material which is R12 slip-resistance certified and designed to be more resilient to meet the continuing demand for social distancing floor graphics.
The anti-microbial film, intended for use on frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, touchscreens, counters, public transport hand rails and power switches, has seen copper added in an effort to kill germs on contact.
According to InkTec, copper film has ‘an inherent ability to kill a wide range of harmful microbes relatively rapidly – often within two hours or less – and with a high degree of efficiency.’
The film uses 99.99% pure copper and contains 500% more copper than similar products on the market. It also has PET as a base material and as a result is more durable than an equivalent PE based product.
As Joey Kim, managing director of InkTec Europe highlights, ‘This film is ideal for offering some protection against killing bacteria on prime, high volume surfaces. While no material can completely eliminate the risk, if used alongside other regular measures and a comprehensive cleaning programme this film can help in reducing and limiting the level of exposure. It is already being actively used in many countries that are emerging from lockdown such as South Korea, which is why InkTec Europe was keen to introduce it here in the UK.’
Meanwhile, the new multi-purpose material, suitable for floor graphics and signage on various surfaces including carpet, rougher textures and walls, is intended to be easy to remove and scratch-resistant, requiring no additional protective laminate.
The added resilience is due to its unique combination of PVC and fabric combined with being thicker (at 450gsm) than standard floor graphic medias. It is ideal for retail and leisure environments, particularly for indoor applications or shorter term outdoor use in dry situations.
Peter Davidson, head of IP consumable sales said, ‘We have been keeping a watchful eye on what has been going on with floor graphic media over the last few months particularly since lockdown has eased. And the one thing that struck us was that there was a need for one that was tougher, hard-wearing but also offered that all important slip-rating. This is going to become increasingly important as we head towards cooler months in the autumn and people migrate more inside. It is going to be essential to continue to remind them of social distancing and this product is ideal at acting as this constant reminder.’
