Kodak has published its 2021 Sustainability Report, which covers its activities for the 2018 to 2021 period and sets out the US company’s environmental ambitions to 2025.

Entitled One World, One Kodak, the 36-page report outlines Kodak’s various programmes, including reducing waste and improving energy efficiency, reducing emissions, conserving water and improving employee and community engagement. It also details how Kodak responded to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and used its resources and technology in new ways to support the fight against the virus.

In addition to Kodak’s achievements such as a 26% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (indexed against revenue, not absolute),  and a 55% increase in the quantity of solvents recovered from non-Kodak sources (both figures from a 2016 baseline), the report outlines the company’s sustainability goals up to 2025. These include a drive towards zero waste at Kodak sites around the world, with 99% waste diversion from landfill or incineration by 2025, plus a further 25% reduction is emissions and a similar cut in water consumption (both indexed to revenue). The company also plans to triple the amount of spent solvents it recovers from external sources over the period.

The publication also explains how existing and forthcoming Kodak products will help the company’s customers’ operations to become more sustainable by reducing energy, water and chemical consumption (through use of Sonora plates, for example) and eliminating waste – Kodak claims its Prosper inkjet imprinting systems produce 50% less waste than the ‘leading alternative’.

‘The events of the past few years have served to reinforce how interconnected we are. What happens on one side of the planet impacts the other,’ said Jim Continenza, Kodak’s executive chairman and chief executive officer. ‘As One Kodak, our people across the globe have a shared responsibility to deliver sustainable growth for our stakeholders and help create a sustainable future for our world.’

The report is available from Kodak’s website.
