Canon has added two new models to its ImagePress ‘V’ series of cut-sheet toner presses, the entry-level V900 and a new flagship model, the V1350, as well as updating its Prisma Production workflow software and adding the Prisma Simulate Ultra estimation and proofing tool.
Bracketing the ImagePress V1000 launched in April 2022, the new presses extend the range to cover applications from light production at 70–90ppm with the V700/800/900 entry-level models up to heavy duty 135ppm / 2.4 million A4 pages per month with the new V1350, which is rated for a lifetime output of 72 million pages and said to offer ‘offset-like’ quality.
The V1350 supports media ranging from 60 to 500gsm, on a wide selection of paper types including embossed and synthetic and is compatible with Canon’s range of inline finishing equipment from Canon. Aimed at high volume and high quality work, it incorporates a number of features designed to optimise reliable continuous running and to maintain image quality with on-the-fly adjustment as necessary.
The V900 line has a smaller media range, from 52 to 350gsm, but also offers duplex banners to 762mm and simplex ones to 1.3m in length. An optional Duplex Colour Image Reader Unit allows the press to make rapid pre-print adjustments to front-to-back registration – accurate to 0.8mm – colour gradation, colour density and secondary transfer voltage to ensure quality even on textured media. This is complemented by a number of features for improved feeding and transport of thick/heavy papers.
Carlotta Basile, Production Portfolio product manager, Canon UK & Ireland, commented, ‘The additions of the V1350 and V900 to our ImagePress V series family will allow both commercial and in-house print service providers to work better, faster, and with greater scope to offer their customers more high-value print products. Built on powerful and proven patented technology and developed based on customer feedback, the ImagePress V series brings a fresh perspective to digital toner press design, making it a reliable solution for print service providers to produce a diverse range of jobs on a single press. The series offers more automated features, a broad range of feeding and finishing options, and easy workflow integration.’
Enhancements to Canon’s Prisma Production workflow software in v6 include improved pre-press capabilities, increasing flexibility with a variety of print file formats including PDF, AFP, line data, PCL, PostScript, PPML, LCDS, RDO and VIPP files. Handling and optimisation of large files, such as high quality photobooks, has been improved and inherent data security has been tightened.
The new Prisma Simulate Ultra is an on-premises application that supports ink estimation, proofing and workflow simulation, intended to increase predictability and reduce makeready times. It is the successor to TrueProof and consists of two independent optional modules :
A Universal PDF Estimator gives detailed ink consumption for Canon’s web-fed inkjet presses, enabling quicker and more accurate quotations to be produced. It enables comparison of pre- and post-calculations against actual ink and media consumption, yielding data exported as PDF or CSV files for further optimisation of quotations or further processing in other management applications.
In combination with Prisma Production, Printer Simulation Packages offer layout proofing and production simulation for web-fed inkjet and selected toner presses to ensure first-time-ready output by checking the layout, registration and printability of each file before printing.
